OAK CITY CHURCH

EXTENDED BELIEFS

Oak City Church is a Spirit-filled family of believers and followers of Jesus Christ.

We submit our lives to the word of God and yield ourselves to the Spirit of God living inside us.

Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Trinity

There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and co-eternal.

1 John 5:7; Genesis 1:26; Mathew 3:16-17, 28:19, Luke 1:35; Isaiah 9:6; Hebrews 3:7-11

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is God the Son. On earth, He was 100% God and 100% man. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and is God’s Anointed One, empowered by the Holy Spirit to inaugurate God’s Kingdom on earth. He lived sinless, was crucified for our sins, died, was buried, resurrected, and ascended into Heaven. He is now alive and dwells in heaven with the Father and in his people on earth.

Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1,14,17,20:28; Philippians 2:5-6; 1 Timothy 2:5,3:16

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is a divine person, sent to dwell, guide, teach, empower the believer, and convince the world of sin, righteousness, and the need for salvation.

By the indwelling and sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, Christians are enabled to live holy and minister like Jesus did.

John 14:15-18, John 16:13, Acts 1:8, John 16:7-11, Acts 1:4-8, 2:4

Holy Bible

The Holy Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative Word of God. It alone is the final authority in determining doctrinal truths.

Romans 16:25-26 , II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21)

The Cross

The victorious redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides freedom from the power of the enemy – sin, lies, sickness and torment.

(John 1:29; Romans 3:10-12,23 5:9; Colossians 1:20; 1 John 1:7; Revelation 1:5, 5:9)

Salvation

Salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all men; and those who repent and believe in Him are born again of the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of eternal life, and become children of God. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ; His death, burial, and resurrection.

Salvation is a gift from God, not a result of our good works or any human efforts.

Titus 3:4-7, John 3:16

Baptism (Water and Spirit)

We believe that baptism by immersion in water is an outward sign of an inward work

and follows the example of Jesus, Who was immersed in water by John the Baptist

The Holy Spirit was given Pentecost and to every believer in Jesus; it is the promise of the Father, sent by Jesus after His Ascension, to empower the church to preach the Gospel throughout the whole earth. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is poured out on believers so that they might have power to be witnesses.

Joel 2:28-29; Matthew 3:11-18; Mark 16:17; Acts 1:5, 2:1-4,17,38-39,8:14-17,10:38,44-47,11:15-17,19:1-6; Matt. 28:19; Rom 6:4

Gifts of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit manifests through a variety of spiritual gifts to build and sanctify the church, demonstrate the validity of the resurrection, and confirm the power of the Gospel. The Bible lists of these gifts are not necessarily exhaustive, and the gifts may occur in various combinations. All believers are commanded to earnestly desire the manifestation of the gifts in their lives. These gifts always operate in harmnony with the Scriptures and should never be used in violation of Biblical parameters.

I Cor. 12:1-11, Romans 12:3-8, Ephesians 4:7-16

The Church

The church consists of all who put their faith in Jesus Christ. He gave his church the ordinances of Baptism and Communion. The Church exists to carry on the ministry of Jesus Christ and further advance His kingdom by undoing the works of the enemy, preaching and living the good news of God’s love, discipling the nations, baptizing and teaching them to love and obey God.

John 17:11,20-21; Ephesians 1:22, 2:19-22; Hebrews 12:23

Heaven and Hell

Heaven and hell are real places. There will be a resurrection of the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting death.

Matthew 5:13, 12,20,6:20, 25:41; Mark 9:43-38; John 17:24; II Corinthians; Hebrews 9:27, 11:16; Revelation 14:9-11, 20:12-15, 21:8

Second Coming

We believe in the ever-increasing government of God and in the Blessed Hope, which is the glorious visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to rule and reign with His overcoming bride – the Church.

1 Thess. 1:7-8; Revelation 1:7; 1 Thess. 4:16, 17; Titus 2:11- 13
